The tenth annual gathering of the Scottish Society will bo held to-mor-low and on Ihursday and in the Society's Hall.
The ratepayers in the Avon Rid in of the Heatiicoto County Council sembled in the North Limvood Schoolroom last evening to hear the addresses of the candidates for a seat on the Council. Mr G Scott, chairman of tho County Council who presided over a fair attendance, stated that Mr E S Diamond had withdrawn from tho contest in favour of Mr J. Carter tho present member, who, however w.ns too ill to leave his house. Mr S. I. Fitch tho only other candidate, then addressed the meeting, and at the conclusion of Ins speech ho and the chairman answered a number of questions A vote of thanks and confidence was c£iiried with only two dissenters in favour .of Mr Carter. election will take place on Wednesday next.
