A complimentary social was tendered to Mr W. Burgess and Mr •!. Beid at Carterton on Friday last, when they were presented with handsome tea. services by the residents of ike district. M'r John Cross, in making tho presentations, thanked tho guests on behalf of the residents for the way in winch they bad provided social evenings all through the wmler. Dancing, interspersed with songs, was kept up 1 o the small hours. The ladies provided reireshments.
