At tho Ashburton Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr V. G. Day, S.M., Stephen and William Ryan (Mr Buchanan) were charged, on "the information of the police, with bringing liquor into the no-license district or Ashburton on October 13 without informing tho vendor of the fact and without having it properly labelled. Mr Buchanan stated that the summons had not been served on one of the defendants, and the hearing of the case was adjourned for a fortnight. Samuel Taylor, for riding a bicycle at night without a light, did not appear and was fined 10s. The Magistrate gave his reserved judgment in the case C. Flvnn (Mr Orbell) v. J. Shearer (Mr Buchanan), claim £3O for damage done to a horse, gig and harness as the result of a collision alleged to be due to the unskilful maimer in which defendant handled his motor-car. There was also a counter claim. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £lB and costs amounting to £7 9s 6d. Judgment was given for plaintiff by default, with costs, in the following civil oases:— Pritchard Brothers v. J. M'Ginn, claim £3 10s; J. Newman y. C. Nolan, £1 12s Gd; John Orr and Co. v. G. Hardaker, £ls 9s Bdj and J. Sander v. S. Moore, £1 lis.
