AQUATIC.

Tho tenth annual report of the Canterbury flowing Association, which was presiiiiled at the annual general meeting held ou Wednesday last. October 2">, states that the past year has been an exceedingly satisfactory one for tho Association, and that affiliated clubs have more than maintained their prestige in the world of sport. Tho Association now consists of eight clubs, with a total activo membership of 718, as against 774 for 1910 and '6(54 for 1901). After allowing for tho loss of seventyfour members attached to tho Christ-

church Amateur Rowing Club (disbanded), it will be seen that the membership for this season is still in excess, in proportion, of that last year. The linnncial condition of the Association is decidedly satisfactory. For the past year the receipts amounted to £6l 2s (which includes £126 lis lid balance from last year), and the expenditure to £3l 10s lOd, leaving a credit balance of £32 lis 2d an increase for the year of £5 19s 3d.'

In commenting on the recent BarryFogwell race/ •"Trident" writes as follows in the " Sydney Mail " :—Reference is made to the Australian method of sculling, with the object of showing that it must fail or should fail, when opposed to the Home style practised by a sturdy representative. Has there been at any time for thirty-five years a team of a score of Englishmen who could succeed against a similar number of worthy fact that all great- scullers make their own style in a manner peculiar to themselves. Their aim is pace, and they know when they are doing their best to set it. Beach had one way of doing his level best, Stanbury quite another—and all have been good, yet very different to look at. Old soullers are pretty well agreed that the prettiest seen on the Parramatta wore Peter Kemp and the late C. A. Kemp, when in their prime. Edward Trickett could win. did win, in whalers, cutters, fovr-oared gigs, waterman's skiffs', light skiffs and best boats. There are not many who can claim the same. During the week T met the secretary of the Lyttelton Regatta Committee, who tells mo that arrangements for the annual fixture are well in hand, and that the collectors are meeting with great success in their efforts, a large amount having aready been subscribed. The Lyttelton Rowing Club intends to call a meeting of members in the early part of next week to decide a suitable date tor opening the season. The question of what action shall be taken with members whose subscriptions are still outstanding will be dealt with.
