Fire destroyed the Imperial Powder Company's factory at Washington, and seven girls perished in the flames. There was no explosion. The origin ofthe fire is a mystery. KILLED BY MISTAKE. At Haye's Landing, New Jersey, Charles Norcross. a hunter, eager to kill a supposed deer, fired, killing two other hunters and wounding two. The gloom of the early dawn obscured his vision. KNOCKED- DOWN BY TRAIN. William Blowitt, aged sixty, residing at- Carlton Mill Road, and employed by tho Railway Department as a messenger, was making his way along ,the> railway line at A'ddington at 9.50 this morning when ho was knocked down by the north train and rendered unconscious. Dr Moorhou.se examined him and found that he had sustained no serious injuries. The signalman states that tho engine-driver blew his whistle, and Blewitt turned round and saw the engine, but stepped in front of it instead of stepping clear of the line.
