Bethesda, slate quarries are closed upon Ascension day, not from any respect for tho religious character of tlift day, hut because it is considered unlucky. Some years the management succeeded in overcoming t-liis feeling, and persuaded some of tho men to work. Strange to say, there was always an accident, and Ascension. Day continues to bo an idlo day with tho l'eurhyn q;;arryruej*.
