Giving evidence in connection with the shearers' case the manager of Goldshrough, • Mort and Co.'s station said that generally the tendency was to go for tho plainer bodied sheep, as wrinkled sheep were less prolific and stood dry seasons badly. • IRISH ENVOYS. At a meeting of the City Council, the Mayor reported that his mission to England in connection with the claims of Adelaide to Lord Mayoralty had proved futile. Mr Lewis Harcourt informed him that the Imperial Government had decided not to grant additional Lord Mayors to any city of the Empire. DR. MAWSON'S EXPEDITION. The State Government will give £SOOO towards the Mawson Antarctic expedition. A STATE HOTEL. PERTH, August 15. The State hotel for the year ended June made a profit of £1687, compared with £2355 for the previous year. The decrease is attributed to the falling-off of trade.
