THE LONDON POSITION. GENERAL RESUMPTION TO-DAY. FACTORIES R United Press Assecintlon —By Eloctric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received Augiist 14, 8.3 a.in.) LONDON, August 13. A general resumption is expected on Monday, although there are a number of misunderstandings in regard to the precise terms of the agreements. The factories nre rerroening. RAILWAY GARTERS STILL OUT. The railway carters declare that the awards do not affect them, and the carters of five of the principal railway companies have struck. Great unrest prevails in other vocations, and there aro numerous sraali strikes.
AFFAIRS AT LIVERPOOL. MARTIAL LAW PREVAILING. PROVISIONS RELEASED BY THE TROOPS. SOLDIERS ESCORTING LORRIES. There is virtually military rule at Liverpool, and large quantities cf provisions blocked at Edgehill station were released by the military. Hundreds of lorries, many driven by the merchants themselves, were escorted by the Scots Greys, and the Warwickshire regiment obtained possession of the produce. The strikers were not demonstrative.
TEE COST TO LONDON. WINDOW CLEANERS OUT. (Received August 14. 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, August 13. The week's strike has roughly cost London £1,500,000. About 1000 window cleaners have struck.
GRAVE POSITION AT LIVERPOOL. RAILWAYMEN CEASE WORK. BUTCHERS CLOSING OWING TO MEAT FAMINE. COTTON INDUSTRY AFFECTED. The situation at Manchester is grave. About 8000 goods raihvaymen have ceased work, and 500 porters and cleaners have struck to-day. The men have no particular grievance, but are acting out of sympathy with the others. The Liverpool butchers are closing owing to a meat famine, and the cotton industry is seriously affected. THE STRIKES IN GLASGOW. SMASHING THE TRAMCARS. SERVICE CONDUCTED UNDER POLICE GUARD. At Glasgow the strikers detached a trolley wire and smashed a number of cars. Twenty men were arrested. A partial service is being maintained by inspectors and other officials working the trams under a police guard.
GLASGOW TRAM SERVICE SUSPENDED. (Received Au<rust 14. 1 p.m.) ' LONDON, August 13. The Glasgow tramway service is entirely suspended.
