FIRES.
OUTBREAK IN CITY FOUNDRY. Constable Raymond discovered, an outbreak of fire in the boiler-room at Messrs Cooper and Duncan's foundry in Colombo' Street at 8.20 p.m. on Saturday. He summoned the Fire Brigade, and alter an hour's strenuous lighting the fire was extinguished. The boiler-room was destroyed by the-fire, and the eastern end of the turners' and flttv"-' o "- r 'l thf-» en fine-room were slightly damaged. It is thought t-nat the lire was caused bv some hot ashes igniting a sack of shavings outside the boiler-room. The foundry is insured for £3OOO, the risks being distributed among several offices. The representatives of the firm state that the damage, though serious, is not sufficient to check its operations. •
The Fire Brigade turned out soon after 11 p.m. on Saturday in answer to an alarm, and found that a gor.se fence near St Saviour's Home, and outside the boundary of the fire area, was on fire. Shortly after eleven o'clock last evening the fire brigade received a false alarm from the box at the corner of Montreal and St Asaph Streets.
