POLITICAL NOTES.
[From Omi Corbesi'ondent.] WELLINGTON, August 23. CHAIRMANSHIP OF COMMITTEES
Tho election of Mr Colvin as Chairman of Committees seems to be assured by the prospective withdrawal of Sir W. J. Steward. Sir William informed a reporter this niorning that he was in the hands of his friends. As the division will be on strict]-- party lines, the presumption is that Mr Colvin will bo the only Liberal candidate.
