The Bucharest correspondent of the "Daily Express" reports that Captain Crigorin, of the Artillery, quarrelled with Dr Frunzeascu, a lawyer, in the street at Botushani. Frunzeascu attempted to horsewhip the captain because the latter refused to fight a duel. Crigorin drew his sabre and decapitated Frunzeascu with a single blow, the severed head rolling into the gutter. The onlookers tried to lynch the captain, but lie kept them at bay with his sword until the police arrested him.
