LADIES' GAMES TRI AI7~MATCI^.

THE REPRESENTATIVE TEAM,

A trial game between teams ohosen by the Selection Committee of the Canterbury Ladies' Hockey Association was played on the Te Rangatira ground, in the North Park, this afternoon. The B team wo-n by two goals to one. All the scoring was done in the first spell, Miss M. Pearce shooting a goal for tlio A team shortly after the oommencement of play. Tlio first score for the B team resulted from a scramble just within the ciivcle. The second score was god; by Miss P. Rhodes, who made her own opening and scored just as the whistle blew for half-time. The quality of the play was not good, the fact that the members cf the teams .had not before worked together doubtless accounting for a noticeable lack of combination. In addition to one or two eases, due to nervousness, all were hampered by the roughness of the ground. The play in the first spell was ragged but fairly even, the ball travelling rapidly from end to end of the field. The second spell, of thirty-five minutes' duration,, opened brightly, though tin? teams did not appear to be improved bv the changes that bad been made, Miss Saunders taking Miss Hangman's Slace as centre for the A team, liss Ransman- going to left half for the B team, and Miss Macfarlane changing to centre. Miss M. Pearce \vas replaced by Miss M. Buchanan. The most prominent player was Miss P. Rhodes (Kotiro), her dean hitting and the smart way in which she made and took advantage of openings being one of the features of the game. The Dunsandel representatives, particularly Miss M. JBoag, worked well. Miss G. Morgan, of Old Girls, and Miss G. Alley, of Girls' High School, played up to their usual form, the former showing that .her exclusion from the teams as originally selected was a mistake. Miss L. Rule displayed her usual dash, aud untiring energy. Mr A. H. Jones was referee.

At the conclusion of play the selectors choso the following representative team: —

Goal, E. Cade (Kotiro); three-quar-ters, D. Pearce (Hinoirion) right, M. Robinson (Te Rangatim) left; halves, L. Rule (Hincmoa) right. M. Macfarlane (Kotiro) centre, W. M'Millan (Waihora) left; forwards, right wing G. Morgan (Old Girls), inside right G. Alley (Girls' High School), centre I'. Rhodes (Kotiro), inside left M. Pearce (Hinenioa), left wing M. Boag (Dunsandel); emergencies. Misses N. Buchanan (Old Girls), D. Saunders (Old Girls), L. Jones (Kotiro) and D. Robinson (Kotiro). Miss Mason will probably travel with the team as the representative of the Canterbury Association.
