THE QUEEN-MOTHER AND HER NURSES.

From the first Queen Alexandra recognised that her best coadjutors in the battle against poverty and suffering were nurses. She set a noble example in her dealings with the nursing profession by declining to do good at the expense or others. She had no belief in a benevolence whioh sets other people to strenuous labours at starvation wage, and she t&ok good care that adequate appointments were secured to all who worked in any degree under her patronage. She examined with ex a c tost care into the prospeots which nursing offered to those who followed this career, and lent her valuable co-ot>eratkra and personal attention to the establishment of the Royal National Pension Fund for Nurses. She herself designed the badge which links the nurses of the fund to their Queen-Mother, and for many years every member received it from her own hands when she graciously entertained her nurses at Marlborough House. Her name (says the "Nursing Mirror") will always be associated with the Imperial Military Nursing Service, which was in a special sense her own creation. Every detail of this scheme was discussed with her or submitted for her approval, many points decided upon were the outcome of her individual suggestion, and it is universally ""acknowledged that the result was a service which places the nursing profession on a higher level than any hitherto attained. The Queen-Mother is mother truly to her nurses. They are assured of her love by countless acts of graceful kindliness, by countless evidences of appreciation, by countless solid benefits.
