England beat South Africa by threo wickets (Bird 45, Hobbs not out 93). THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM. The Australian team is having an offday to-day. The match against Otago will he commenced to-morrow, and will be continued on Monday and Tuesday. The team is" due back in Christchurch on Wednesday evening, and will commence the first test match against New Zealand at Lancaster Park on Friday next. The New Zealand Cricket Council has written to the Mayor asking him to declare a half-holiday on Friday, March llj upon which date the Test Match will be commenced in Christchurch. His Worship has reserved his decision in the matter till to-morrow.
