RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
PORTER RUN OVER AT . LYTTELTONI This afternoon a very distressing raii^ way accident occurred at the LytteKonl railway yard, a porter named T. IL Williams being run > over by some wac > jgons and having hie legs jßeriwusly \vt* * j v red. He » was engaged in some shunt* "* 1 ing operations, and in pursuance of 'tß^ | regular practice, was riding on the fdt&? jt. ward end of the points, so as to be able* j to jump off, run ahead and turn thttj- £ points before the train; reached thexn^" * When he jumped off, he landed onso«# ground much intersected by the ralis of a complicated diamond crossing, aas his foot caught. He was thrown dowsi< by his owii impetus, i and before " h« could get, away the trucks were npoiiL him. One leg was terribly mangledy ancL the other, \while, not actually xvm over, was badly crushed by 'the wheels*. The victim waß taken at once to th* -s casualty ward, where it was necessary to at once amputate the more seriously} injured' leg. The other one, it was hoped, would, be saved. ; The injure* man is married, and has a family.-
