GENEROUS SUBSCRIPTIONS.
LONDON, January 1. (Received January 1, 11.35 p.m.) The French Government has opened a national subscription, President Fallieres subscribing £1000. The American public is subscribing most generously. The Steel Trust has given £5000 and the Standard Oil i Trust £2000. The Red Cross Society has remitted to Italy £10,000 remaini ing from the San Francisco relief fund.
SYDNEY, January 1. This morning the civic bemads of variCu3 cities of the Commonwealth, opened earthquake funds.
