[Per Press Association. ] DUNEDIN, January 2. The Otago Caledonian Society's sports opened yesterday. The weather was fine in the morning but got cold and threatening in the afternoon. Fortunately, the Tain held off until the sports were over. The attendance was a little larger than last year. The New Zealand Athletic Union championships this year were allotted to Dunedin and are being decided at this meeting. The championship events resulted as follow:— BAGPIPE MUSlC— PibrocLs:. A. Duncan (Tapanui) 1, D. Cameron 2, A. C. Dickson 3. Marcnea: A. Duncan 1, E. M'Kechni© 2, D. Cameron 3. 100 YDS — Brinlnnan (Christclmrch) l.Shivas 2. These, were the only starters, and' the raco was won easily. I|im&— llseo. WALKING RACE, one mile— P. M'Coll (Wellington) 1. Flaherty (Christchurch) and ■Craik. (Dunedin) also started. After going half a mile Flaherty dropped out. With a quarter of a mile to go M'Coll was leading by more than fifty yaxds, but Craik put on a fine epurt and: beat his opponent by two feet. About four yards from the flni«hinqi post M'Coll evidently considered that Craik was attempting to bore him, and- he cauffht the leader by the shoulder. -After inquiry, Craik was disoualified, and the race was awarded to M'Coll. TJme^-6niin 52 4rssec. HIGHLAND FLING— A. Stewart (Inveroargill) 1, R. M'Kechnie (Dunedin) 2, J. Oggl (Dunedin) 3. HALF-MILE FLAT— R. Chalmers (Dunedin) 1, Wright (Outram) 2, Valentine (Dunedin) 8. These were the only etartera. Won by about twelva yards. Time— 2min 14 8-Sseo. SEANN TRUipHAa — A. Stewart (Inveroargill) 1, M'Kechnie 2, Ogg 3. THROWING THE HAMMER CHAMPIONSHD? ANti HANDICAP— F. Forde (Inveroari?ill). 121 ft 2iin, 1; M. Kean (2ft Sin). 117 ft 10 Jin, 2; W. Ford'e (sft), 105 ft lljin, 8. The winner, aided by the strongwind, beat last year's record by over < 10 feet. [Per Press Association.] FEILDJNG, January 2. At the Cheltenham annual sports yesterday the principal cycling events were won by M. lanson, and the principal pedestrian events by L. J. Pirani. The open hunters competition was won by Mr H. O. Hartley's Vendetta.
