Owing" to an improvement in the London market, there is a strong demand for silver and copper shares at advanced prices. . J THE VICES SUPPRESSION ACT. A Bill has been introduced in the Assembly to tighten up- the Vices Suppression Act. Amongst other things, it provides for the suppression of shilling I sweeps and unseemly conduct in the i streets on New Year's Eve and other I public occasions. NEW SOUTH WALES FACTORIES. The report of the Department of Labour and Industry shows that there were forty more factories, employing 4429 additional hands, in, the State last year than in the previous year. THE BUILpiNG TRADE. The new buildings erected in the city and suburbs are valued at between £3,000,000 and. £4,000,000, and the prospects of the building and kindred trades are very bright. ! (Received August 7, 10.5 a.m.) THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN VINTAGE. ADELAIDE, August 7. The South Australian vintage last year showed a decrease of 434,000 gallons. ADULTERATION OF FOODSTUFFS. SYDNEY, August 7, A deputation which waited on the Under-Secretary of Agriculture asked for legislation^ dealing with the adulteration of bran, pollard and other .poultry foods, and for the regulation of the egg trade. The members of the deputation declared that large quantities of eggs, totally unfit for consumption, were used in connection with the confectionery trade. Mr Anderson promised to give consideration, to the questions raised.
