« HANDLING IN LONDON. [Per Press Association^ , WELLINGTON, August 6. All New Zealand meat sent to London now is well inspected after its arrival. Mr C. J. Reakes, of the Government staff of veterinary surgeons, who went to London to arrange for a systematic inspection at London of meat imported- from this country, and who returned to-day, states that he was able to make very satisfactory arrangements for that object, and he left everything in good working order. Mr Crabb, M.R.C.V.S., who was formerly in the service of the New Zealand Government, is now acting for the dominion as veterinary inspector in London. In bringing this plan to completion, Mr Reakes received every assistance from the English authorities. They did everything in their power to help him. He profited considerably, he says, from his interviews with fellow-veterinarians. Among the many institutions which he visited were the Veterinary School and the Bacteriological Laboratory at London, the Pasteur Institute at Paris, and veterinary schools at Paris, Brussels and Copenhagen. In Denmark he was much impressed by the very thorough system of veterinary education in force there. He spent a few days at. the Copenhagen Veterinary College, and gained a thorough insight

. into : the teaching methods in vogue . there. Unfortunately, concluded- "Mr p Reakes, he had to leave England beu fore the great agricultural show of the J r year, "the Royal," took place, but he visited a couple of othei important s fairs, the Western Counties Show, at s Bath, and the Royal Counties Show, j and at both of them he saw a consideri able quantity of .good, live stock.
