BOXING.
CHRISTOHURCH SPORTS CLUB. A meeting of the committee was held on Saturday. A. Parker, of Dunedin, wrote etating that he was prepared to meet any professional light-weight in. a fifteen-round contest. It was decided to reply that no dates were available. In connection with tho New Zealand championships, to be held on August 19 and 20, it was decided that tho managers in charge of visiting teams should be accommodated on the stage, but that other visiting members of local Associations should be provided with reserved seats in tho dress circle. This action was necessary owing to the limited seating accommodation on the stage. The following team was selected to represent Canterbury in the New Zealand championships : — Bantam-weight, J. Parker, G. Judge, R. Heatly, H. M'Cahon and W. Midgley; featherweight, E. T. Guudry, A. Hall, J. Young, S. Mangin and H. Bennett; light-weight, P. Turner and A. Thomson; welter-weight, R. Mayze and V. H. Pindlay; middle-weight, J. Lloyd, A. Birch. A. Chick and F. H. Jones; heavy-weight, J. Cross, J. Shaw and T. Shaw. The team will be- strengthened by the- inclusion of T. Stewart (bau£«Bs and W. Elliott (feather), who *iav* been nominated by the Timaru Sports Club. It was decided that entries should close on August 15, and that the local entry should not be confined to those selected, it being recognised that others might be desirous of competing. The secretary reported that ho was informed that competitors from Auckland, Palmerston North. Wellington, Nelson, Blenheim, Dunedin and Invercargill would take part in the competition. The secretary also reported progress in connection with the proposed boxing hall.
