THE AFTERNOON'S PLAY.

Little interest has been taken in the j Canterbury Rugby 'Union's Senior championship competition since Albion beat Sy&ennam for the second time and so practically won the championship. To-day the weather was exceptionally inviting, but the attendance at Lancas- ; ,ter Park was the smallest of the season, and spectators and players alike seemed to suffer from. lack of interest in tjae games. Sydenham have gone downhill since their second meeting with Albion, and they- put a rather weak toam into the field against Linwood, the match being played on the east ground. Linwood were without the services of their half-back throughout i the game,, and they had by no means the better of the play, which was for the most part uninteresting. The Sydenham attack, however, lacked finish, and taking advantage of their chances Linwood won by six points (two tries) to three points (a try). On the west ground Albion had an easy win over Christqhurch by twenty-five points (two goals and five tries) to nil. The Albion backs had a monopoly of the ball and scored as they pleased. The most interesting of the three games was that between Merivale and Canterbury Col- . i lege on the south ground. The play was fast, tho Merivale backs making a fair showing, but the fonyards were well matched, and ' there was not a great deal between the teams. Merivale won by eleven points (a goal and two tries) to throe points (a try). Next Saturday the last of the Senior matches J will be played.
