PUBLIC SCHOOLS AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.

NORTH CANTERBURY

An annual meeting of tho North Canterbury Public Schools Amateur Athletic Association was held at the Normal School this morning, when Mr J. B. Mayne (vice-president) occupied the chair, and there w.as a large attendance of members.

The Council's annual report stated that the credit balance, as shown, in the balance-sheet, had been increased from £59 14s 2d to £77 Os 3d. The liabilities were still nil, whilst the assets had increased to £135 10s 3d. During the year the usual cricket and football competitions had been held, and. also, through the generosity of the New Zealand Rugby Union, a seven-a--eide football tournament. As usual, the annual sports meeting was a great success, and the proof of its popularity was shown by the gate-money being slightly greater than la3t year's. To maintain, the public interest <a sub-com-mittee had been set up to formulate and carry out plans whereby the displays might be mado more attractive. The thanks of the Association were due fco Mesdames Adams, Chilton, Payling and Recce for judging the fancy dress competitions, to Captain .Farthing and Sergeant-Ma j or Hoar for again judging the military drill, and to all the officials and the teachers who assisted in making the annual sports meeting a success. The Association was indebted to Lieutenant-Colonel Loveday for a donation towards the bugle competition, and to Messrs L. B. Wood and J. 0. Adams for their donations towards the funds.

The report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted.

The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, chairman' of the North Canterbury Education Board; president, Mr J. C. Adams; vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. Baldwin, W. Brock, T. S. Foster, C. D." Hardie and J. B. Mayne 5 council, Messrs J. J. Adams, F. T. Evans, W. Balch, M. Lynskey, P. Menzies, G. Petrie, C. F. Pratt, W. N. Seay, F. D. Waller, W. West and S. C. Owen, and Misses C4rant, Hall and Spjence; auditors, Messrs Charles Allard and J. R. Sinclair; hon. treasurer, Mr G. Schneider; hon. secretary, Mr W. W. Garton.

The matter of revising the rules relating to the football competitions was referred to the football sub-committee.

Mr F. T. Evans 6aid that the Canterbury Rugby Union was -willing to" again donate £15 towards this year's football competitions. The Union hoped the competitions would take the form of a seven-a-side tournament, and that \ it would be held on August 29. This was agreed to, and a committee was set up to make the necessary arrangements for holding the tournament on the date suggested.
