THE RECENT NAVAL MANEILVRES.

LORD BERESFORD AND ADMIRAL

SCOTT.

THE ADMIRALTY SATISFIED

United Press Association — By EJeotric Telegraph — Copyright. (Received August 1, 8.25 a.m.)

LONDON, July 31.

In the House of Commons Viscount Castlereagh asked a question relative to a letter which appeared in the "Times," in which tho writer alleged that during the naval manoeuvres of the Channel Fleet early in July Admiral Beresford signalled the cruisers Good Hope and Argyll to perform an evolution which, if obeyed, would have brought tho vessels into collision. The letter stated that the Argyll obeyed the signal, but Admral Percy Scott, aboard the Good Hope, signalled that he had doubts as to the accuracy of the signal, and refrained from obeying.

The Right Hon Reginald M'Kenna, First Lord of tho Admiralty, said the Admiralty was satisfied that Lord Beresford's manoeuvre waa not dangerous, but Admiral Percy Scott was justified in turning his ship the other way, believing that the order involved risk, and Lord Beresford so informed him at the time. Tho statement was received with cheers.
