MARRIAGE CELEBRATIONS.

+ ADDINGTON REVELS. AN EYE 'FOR. A FINE. The celebrations and merry-making that followed a wedding in Addington culminated in a "set-to" between two young men. who daringly held their little bout i--. iront of the Addington police station, with the result that one of the combatants appeared before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court this morning. When the case was called, a young man whose eye showed unmistakable evidence of having been in violent collision with some solid matter, answered to tho name of Thomas Jackson, and was charged with having assaulted an unknown person. Constable Jackson, stationed at Addington, gave evidence. He said that at about 2.50 this morning he was awakened by cries of '•'murder" and " police " outside the police station at Addington. He went outside and found the accused and another man fighting on the lawn in front of the station. He separated them, but soon afterwards a | third man appeared on the scene, coming through the gate. As soon as he saw him, accused rushed at him and knocked him down. Witness then arrested the accused and locked him up, but when he went to get the other two they had gone. Outside the station about fifteen young men were standing talking. They had all come from a wedding celebration in the local hall, where the proceedings, he had been told, had been very lively. -The language of the men, as far as he could find out, had been disgusting and the whole affair wa6 disgraceful. Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., after looking over the accused, said: "The eye that you have got is as good as a fine. You will be convicted and discharged." An elderly woman in Court : ' ' Thank you, your honor."
