MARVELLOUS ESCAPES.

(Received April 18, 10.26 a.m.) \ SYDNEY, April IS. ■ The engines of the trains which mdl in collision were\badly smashed, and two carriages of each train were demolished. It is believed that the accident was caused through a mistake in the signals. Where the blunder aW tually occurred is not known.
The Glen Innes train was running late, owing to the heavy holiday traffi^ and was in the act of pulling on to M loop line to allow the Brisbane exprefli to pass, when it was seen that a cofc lision was imminent. Both driver* applied their brakes, but it was too late to avert a collision. The impact was heard a mile away. Debris was hurled a long distance, and a buffer was found fifty yards away, j The soldiers on the train used theifT bayonets for freeing the injured, wfi* I were caught amongst the splattered timbers. That nobody ww killed i» attributed to the fact that the soldier* and other passengers had ahosfiy laiitt down to sleep, and their recumbentf bodies offered less resistance. AfW the first shock of the ezcitemeat, tbjf troops displayed fine discipline. : The injured are doing well.
