ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
[Per Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, April 16. A seven-year-old girl named Barbara Becher, while playing with others in empty trucks at Ahuroa, fell on the rails and the wheel of a truck passed over her leg. The child was sent by special train to Auckland Hospital, but &A on the i-™^^ 16 . William Dapp, a farmer residing at Baton, was found dead in his hop kiln. On Sunday two workmen, intending to leave their swags at tne kiln, saw the body on opening the door. At an inquest a verdict was returned that death resulted from valvular disease of the heart. Deceased, who was sixty-four years of age, survived his late wife by only a few months.
The young man Richard Scott, who received serious injuries through falling into the hold of the s.s. Mamari at Lyttelton yesterday evening, was reported to be somewhat better to-day. There is now considerable hope of hie recovery. .
