Mr S. R. Stedman, who is endeavouring to lower the Dunedin to Christchurch motor-cycle record, left Dunedin jfchis morning at 6.15 a.m., passed through. Oamaru at 9.7 a.m., and left Himaru at 11.10 a.m. Mr Stedman itahould reach the Christchurch Post Offfice about three o'clock tbis afternoon. I A meeting of those interested in the formation of a hockey club was held in ithe Lyttelton Wesleya'n Schoolroom yesterday evening. Mr W. E. O6ok presided, and there was a good attendees. The secretary to the Victorian De-r partment of Agriculture has written to the Christchurch City Council, in reply to inquiries regarding eaud-grass, that a variety known as melilotua has been grown with great success at King Island, and proved to be excellent feed for cattle. The annual rainfall at King Island, however, amounts to 45m, considerably in excess of the average rainfall in Canterbury.
" I look on the man who owns land as wedded to that land," remarked Mr John O'Halloran at the Conciliation Board to-day. He added that though enormous profits had been made off the land in other districts, he had never left his place. He never liked to know what he had spent on his farm because he could not talk about it without proclaiming himself as having been foolish.
