THE HOP INDUSTRY.

AMERICAN COMPETITION. United Press Association — By Electrio Telegraph— Copyright.

LONDON, April 15

Sir Gilbert Parker, in the House of Commons, directed attention to the ruin of the Kentish hop industry by the ** dumping " of 8000 tons of American ihops in the United Kingdom within a ¥ew weeks.

Mr Lloyd George deprecated exaggeration, in the matter. He attributed the difficulties of the British industry largely to .the development of labourcaving machinery and the use of hop substitutes. He jocularly suggested that the brewers should show patriotism jby using only British hops. He added that the House should await the result of the Select Committee's inquiry.

The House of Commons has adjournfed until April 27.
