At the inquiry into the loss of the Bega, passengers gave evidence that the vessel had a list when she left the wharf at Tathra. One of the boats wa£ very leaky, and the only bailer was a boot. Great difficulty was experienced in keeping th c boat afloat. One passenger deposed to being handed a knife by a sailor and being asked to cut the painter of the women's boat. Other evidenc© was given as to tEe vessel carrying fees cargo than usual, and that it was well stowed.
