DEER STALKING.
THE SPORT IN NORTH OJFAGO. [Per Peess Association.] OAMARU, April 13. A number of deer stalkers who have returned from North Otago state that during the first week heavy rain and snow interfered with the sport. Messrs John Deans and James Deans (Northcote) and Mr Murray- Aynsley secured seven" heads in the Ahuriri Gorge. The parties in the Dingle had fair sport. Messrs J. Cand and W. N. Bond secured five heads, the best being a thir-teen.-pointer ehot by the former. Mr Hardcastle shot four and Mr Forbes three heads, the latter getting a beautiful eleven-pointer 41|in in length of horn. Messrs Smith, Allen and James secured nine heads, including a good royal shot by Mr. James. Mr Coffin and Mr J. H. B. Oliver did well in Maitland Creek, Mr Coffin having the best bag of the whole party, getting a fourteen-pointer, a thirteen-pointer and a royal, all heavy heads. A Kurow party shot seven Leads at Deep Creek, Mr J. Gilmour getting an exceptionally fine, ten-pointer. The stags were in excellent condition, but few really good heads were seen.
