The next step, it states, will be to destroy free-trade jto discharge its financial obligations. The " Daily News " says that Lord SCuraon stands for a large modification bf the fiscal system. "If Curzonism is not exactly Balfourism to-day," it States, "the chances are that Balfourism will be Curzonism to-morrow. Cur.Bonism is not protection or retaliation. It is a specious proposal to broaden the basis of taxation for revenue purposes, anerely to keep free-traders within the party, relieve the wealthy from direct (taxation and provide funds for social {reform." The "Daily News" protests togainst broadening the basis of taxation, which means raising the cost of living to the poor.
