A RICH FIND.

GOLD AT RUSSELL. ' [Per Press Association - .] AUCKLAND. March 23. It is reported that a rich gold deposit has been discovered at Russell. According to the somewhat meagre details to hand, it appears that a wellknown Russell firm has been engaged in clearing some vacant land quite close to the town itself. While clearing operations were in progress, the up-rooting of some gorse led to the discovery of highly-coloured stone, which, upon analysis, proved to be rich in mineral. Further investigation led to the realisation of the fact • that a spur running down almost to the sea frontage possesses a wonderfully rich reef. Some excitement prevailed over the reported discovery, and, according to a gentleman who has seen the locality, it is the richest gold find in the dominion. The land on which the reef is situated is owned by natives, and a syndicate is negotiating for a lease.
