ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

SUDDEN DEATH IN A NURSING HOME. A single woman named Hannah Taggart, about 35 years of age, died on Saturday afternoon at Mrs Hanwell's nursing home at Papanui. An inquest was held yesterday morning at the Morgue, before the Coroner, Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M. It was stated that the deceased had come from Dunedin about ten days ago, and, after , staying with a private -family, had entered the home on Wednesday evening, i for the purpose of being confined. She had been apparently quite well till Saturday afternoon, when the daughter of the proprietress, hearing a noise in the deceased's room, had gone in and found her in her bed dead. Drs Fenwick and Moorhouse stated that they had held a post-mortem examination of the body, and that death was due toi syncope. Samples of the contents of the stomach had heen taken and sent to the Government Analyst for investigation. The inquest was adjourned for the calling of further evidence till 6 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Magistrate's Court.
