([Pek, Phjsss Association.] AUCKLAND, December 23. The mysterious disappearance of a coloured boy, known as Sam Maedonald, aged} about eighteen; was- tfep^tt^fl to the police to-day by Mr J. Alexander, by whom the lad was employed. Mr Alexander had engaged the boy to go out with him on his oil launch on an excursion _ this morning, and the boy wen 4 ; out in a dinghy to the launch last night. This morning neither the boy nor the dinghy could be found, and no trace had been discovered up to a late hour to-night. An accident occurred at Montgomery Terrace on Saturday morninw. Mr Thornton, of Christchurch, one of the directors of the claim, with the secretary .was paying a visit of inspection, and in walking over some boulders he slipped and fell heavily, breaking his right wrist. While at Wainoni on Anniversary Day Mr W. Harris, secretary of the Christchurch Operative Butchers' Union, met with an accident, which wm prevent him from following' his occupation for some time. An inquest was held at the Kaiapoi Courthouse yesterday morning before Mr J. H. Blackwell, acting-coroner, concerning the death of the infant child of Daniel M'Leod. The jury found that death was caused by inanition, the child not having been properly nourished, and added that it wished to draw attention to the unsatisfactory state of the premises in which the. child was boru. A serious accident happened at Smithfield, Winchester, about 7 a.m. on Monday. Mr Hugh Miller, while working a £wo-horse grass mower, was thrown' in front of the knives by his horses bolting across' a ridged field of turnip. He got a deep gash, about four inches long, in the thigh, and was cut in the right armpit and the left shin. Dr CrawsKaw, of Temuka, bandaged the wounds, and Mr Miller was taken to the Temuka Private Hospital. The wounds are serious, but not dangerous.
