Drunkenness. — Three first- offenders for drunkenness were each fined ss, in default twenty-fours hours' imprisonment. — Millicent Stinbury was declared to be an habitual drunkard, and was committed to the Samaritan Home for two years. Obscene Language. — Annie- Clements, charged with using obscene language in Montreal Street, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, the Magistrate remarking that this was her tenth conviction for using obscene language. Maintenance. — "William Ruesell Miller was charged by' liis ivif &, for whom Mr Mosley appeared, with failing to provide for her maintenance. It appeared that acused was living in another district, and had made no effort to keep up payments. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. — John Sims was charged with being about to leave the dominion without making provision for the adequate support of his children. Accused was arrested on the Turakina,, half an hour before she was due to sail for London. He had in his possession a steerage ticket for London, a draft for £200, and £32 in cash. He protested that he was "only going a trip," and was remanded until to-morrow, for the purpose of inquiries being made regarding the children, one of whom is an imbecile, two in- an industrial school, and the other a child of nine years of' age. — Reginald Woods (Mr Leathern) was charged with being abou't to leave the dominion without making provision for his unborn illegitimate child. The case was dismissed.
