4 CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association, met last evening; present — Messrs Q. Caygill (chairman), D. Reese, J. N Fowke, A. Costelloe and J. Young, and D. H. Thomson, (honorary secretary). . Some discussion took place as to whether Dr Thacker's medal, which was to be awarded for the most meritorious performance in the Canterbury-Auck-land match, should be awarded by the committee, and it was eventually decided to ask Dr Thacker whether it should be\awarded. It was decided to award a month's wages to T. Malbne, who was reported to nave been incapacitated by nis; injury in the Canterbury-Auckland match. - ■ Messrs Hardy and Hart were appointed umpires for .'the Otago-Ca'nterbury match, on December 24, 25 and 26. It was decided that the match should commence at 11.30 a.m. on the first day and 2 p.m. on Christmas Day, play to cease at 6.15 p.m. Messrs Reese, Caygill and Fowke were appointed a sub-committee to arrange details. The Otago Association wrote, agreeing to play a second grade representative match with Canterbury on December 25 ami 26, at Dunedin, The Malvern Association wrote, stating that it would be able to send a senior team to Christchurch on New J Year's Day. The Malvern Juniors i would also meet the Christchurch j junior team at Kirwee on the earn© day. Mr H. F. Arkwright, of Marton, wrote, asking whether a cricket eleven, organised by him, would be able to tour for a w&ek or ten days in Canterbury between January 23 and February 1.4. The team, which would include the Gave Bros, and G. Marshall, of Wanganui, and mostly English public school old boys, notably H. M. Butterworth, who played^ for Oxford se- s veral thnes last year, was desirous of ', playing Christ's College and the senior olubs of Christchurch. Members expressed the opinion that all the senior clubs would meet the visitors. The secretary said that he had forwarded all the secretaries' addresses to Mr Arkwright. Mr Thomson was appointed manager of the Canterbury team to play Wellington on January 1\ 2 and 3. The secretary introduced the subject ( of engaging a professional coach, to bring Canterbury back to its former position." ' ■ Mt Costelloe said that Mr S. Orchard, captain of th© Linwood Club, had already received promises, of £50 towards the expense, and the cricketers should be asked to contribute. Dr Orchard, Messrs F. C. Raphael, S. "W.
