THIS AFTERNOON'S MATCHES

The fifth round of district grade matches was commenced this afternoon, when the wickets were in first-class order. In Senior cricket West Chrietchurch. made 306 against Sydenham, but the other games are in a very even state. D. Reese, witli 106, was tue only century-maker in Senior cricket. The following ar e the detail® of the scores :— s • EAST CHRISTCHURCH v. ST ALBANS. East Christchurch batted first and scored 156, Eggleston 32, Ward 35 -»ot out, Willsteed 14 and Ross 11 being the only players to score double figures. Johnston took six wickets for 06. Reese and Wood made & good' start for bt Albans tho first wicket falling at oS, but at the call of time, with two players absent, the score had only inched JSO for seven wickets down. Wood 50, Reese 38, Ford pi not out, and Feldwick 10 were the chief scorers. RICCARTON v. LINWOOD. Lihwood batted first, and, owing to an excellent etand by Kinvig. Young, Howell and Brooke for the last two wickets, when 80 runs were added, the good score of 231 was reached, towards which Kinrig contributed 31 Young 30 not out, Howell 18, B. Ridley 28, Ellis 16, A. Ridley 17, Read 15, Brooke 15 and Orchard 10. Williams took three wickets for 49 and Humphreys three for 78. At the call of time Riccarton had scored 93 for one wicket (Humphreys 28, Cay,gill 34 not out and Anthony 18 not out). SYDENHAM v. WEST CHRISTCHURCH. .West Christchurch won the toss, and stayed at the wickets all the afternoon, the last man being dismissed with the score at 346. Towards this total Reese contributed 106 by free cricket, while Whitfca 84, Thomas 51, Lusk 39 and Vernon 31 not out were the other chief scorers. Patrick and Bennett were the most successful bowlers :>r Sydenham.

SECOND GRADE. The. match between Linwood and East Christctturch was commenced at Lancaster Park. Limvood, who won the toss, batted first, their innings realising 250 (Taylor 56, Redpath 32, Cook 28, Doell 24, Weston 21 not out, j Boulnois 20, Brooker 15 and Byrne 10). East Christchurch, when time was called, had made 30 for 6 wickets (Thornton 13 not out). Taylor (2 for 4) and Ward (4 for 20) bowled very well for Linwood, while Just, Atkinson and Clarke divided the bowling honours for East Christchurch.

West Christchurch took strike against St Albans, and made 211, with a good last wicket partnership by Hart and Rogers, Hart was not out with 55, Lawrence 61, Norman 34, Badham 13. Griffen and O'Callaghan divided the bowling for St Albans, who commenced badly, and were all out for 97 (Griffen 28, Blackwell 27 and E. R. Deacon 12). i Play then ceased for the day. .

THIRD GRADE. Linwood B and Riccarton B tried conclusions at Lancaster Park. The Ricoarton- eleven batted first and registered 105 (Miller 21, Thomson 21 not out, Fulton 19 and (Smith 16): In response Linwood, who batted very well, compiled 270 (Evans 82, Mansell 43, Fox 28, Jacomb 24, Wilson 22, Bowker 19, P. Jones 17, A. Jones 13 and Fox, jim., 10 not out). Smith, Ashby and Fulton bowled well for Riccarton, and for Linwood A. and P. Jones bowled well. The match between East Christchurch and Sydenham B was commenced at Lancaster Park. East Christohurch, winning the toss, decidoc! to bat, and compiled 142 (Twyneham 11, Fraser .45, Sando 29, Willeteed 12. Dr Orchard 14 and A. Washer 21 not out). Sydenham in their firs» effort registered 80 (J. O'Shea 10, Leydon 25, and Brown 10). When time was called East Chjistchurch in their second venture had scored 13 for two wickets, Fraser claiming all the runs. Borland, Forrester Leydon and Ferguson divided the wickets for Sydenham ,i and Washer, Haughey, Fraser and Brooker took the wickets for East Christchurch. St Albans B made 159 against .Linwood A thanks to a good innings by Garrard'for 101 and Colville 29. Winchester took six wickets for Linwood, who at call of time had lost nine wickets for 110 (Flewellvn 48 and Warner 13). Peters and Wright took the wicfcets for St Albans. \ .St Albans A were all out for 127 against West Christchurch, Browning making 36, Treweek 30, Reid 22 and Flesher 14 not out. West Christen m- oh made 184 (Hammond 75, M*Coy 25, Thompson 22, La very 23 and TurI ncr 16 not uot). Reid took 6even wicI kets for St Albans.-

FOURTH GRADE. Boys' High School beat East Christchurch by 24 runs on the first innings, the scores being: — East Christchurch 114 (Morrison 45, Washer 21, Myers 13), Boys' High School 138 (Dalterson 41, Jameson 27 not out, M'Callum 22, Gaygill 13 and Miller 10). Clark took six wickets for High School, and Myers ! nine wickets for East Christchurch.
