THE MOTOR-CYCLE RELIABILITY TRIAL. Judging from the manner in which, the. entries for the Motor-oyele Reliability Trial, which is being promoted by the motor section of the Christchurch Cycling and Motor Club, are coming in, the trial promises to be tiie huge success its promotion deserves. THis will be the first competition of the kind held in the dominion, and very elaborate preparations are being made towards ensuring its unqualified success. The Christchurch Cycling and; Motor Club Jias the reputation of never doing anything by halves, and it is evident that the reliability trial will prove no exception. The captain, Mr R. B. Walker, when interviewed on the subject this morning, stated that the Sromotion of this competition , was unertaken purely in the interests -f legitimate sport, and in order to test the reliabilty of the motor-cycle as -a means of locomotion. He fully expected to see something like fifty competitors face the starter, and^every thing would be done towards making the trip thoroughly enjoyable to all those taking part in it. The following gentlemen have been appointed officials to check the competitors. en route, and each of these would be only too glad to render any assistance to any of those competing/ in the way of supplying information: — Dunsandel, Mr J. Burgess; Ashburton, Mr C. Carson: Genaldine, Mr Meredith; Timaru, Mr Goodwin; Oamaru Mr F. R. Denniston; Dunedin, Mr W. B. Bell. Entries will close this evening.

The motor-car reliability trial, which has been promoted by the Canterbury Automobile Association, from Christchurch to Dunedin and back, has closed with an entry of forty-three cars, constituting a record for the colony, and probably for Australasia. The following officials have been appointed in connection /with the trial :— Judges, Messrs F. H. Chamberlain (Chrietcburch), S. W. Luxford' (Palmerston North), and A. Cleave (Auckland); superintendent observer, jMr E. H. James; starting ste.ward, Mr F. H. Chamberlain ; finishing steward, Mr H. ThoanpsoV; steward for Ashburton, Mr W. M'Ciurg; stewards for Timaru, Messrs Burnett, Goodman and C. Wood; stewards for Dunedin, Dr Fulton and Messrs H. B. Fulton and E. E. Stark ; trial sub-committee, , Messrs F. H. Chamberlain,. S. W. Luxford and A. Cleave. In addition to these officers the Association has appointed forty-one observers, whose duty it will be to accompany each car and hand in each day a tabulated report of the day's run. The small cars will" leave opposite- the Occidental Hotel, - Latimer Square, at 9.30 a.m. on sday and the large cars at 10 a.m. The first day's run will be to Timaru, the second day's run to Dunedin, and .after stopping over in Dunedin for Sunday the cars, will make the return journey, travelling from the Rangitata Bridge to Christchurch via the Rakaia Gorge.
