SWIMMING.
NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR ASSOCIATION. A" meeting of the Council of the Ne<w Zealand Amateu- Swimming Association Avas held last evening; present Messrs W. G. Atack (chairman), S. K. Bassett, G. Reese, A. Donaldson, N. Goldsbury and A. R. Kirk (honorary secretary). Pursuant to notice, Mr Reese, on behalf of the Canterbury Centre, moved that, as the Canterbury Centre had now fifteen clubs affiliated to it, ' a more equitable system of representation, giving it a proportionate power, should be adopted. The matter was discussed at some length, the chairman stating that a change would mean altering the present constitution seriously, and reverting to parochialism, and the motion was lost. Mr Reese further moved, in accordance with notice, that the annual subscription of clubs with tee© than fifty members should be 10s 6d, and of those of greater membership £1 Is. The m<f tion was seconded by Mr Donaldson, and was carried.. • It. was decided, on the motion of Mr Donaldson, seconded by Mr Bassett, to grant proficiency certificates to scholars who swam 220 yards or over. A letter was received from the Auckland Club to th© effect that interest in swimming in ■> that district was not at all keen. Efforts were being made to encourage it in various ways. The City Council was building new baths in the harbour, and other bodies were assisting. erection of tepid bathe was also mooted. Until there was more accommodation for bathers, however, there did not seem to- be much chance of a revival of interest. The letter was received. , .
