[PEr, Press Association.] HASTINGS, December 20. The sky is overcast- and the heat is less intense, but it is still rainless. CARTERTON, December 20. The prolonged drought here broke yesterday, when heavy rain fell continuously for several hours. The country was greatly, in need of rain. Milksupplies at the factories were falling considerably, crops were drying up, and prospects generally were bad.
