After many months' delay the qnw tion of allowing ox facilitating prospects ing for minerals in Egmont National Park was considered at the annual meeting of the Board yesterday. Pros* pectoTS have procured specimens of inw^ ore, manganese copper, sulphur, large* deposits of gold-bearing quartz and kaolin clay superior to any yet founqj in Tavaaaki. Samples were exhibited showing 67 per cent of manganese and! assays of gold quartz giving gold to thd value of 25s to the ton of stone. A' deputation asked permission to conduct prospecting operations in the reserve* which is exempt frpm the operations eg the Mining Act. It was resolved tiha# the Board begs to inform the G«v«fl!H ment that it sees no objection t© tl^ area known as the Kaitoke Ranges ban ; ing thrown open to prospecting for l> period of twelve months.
