. [Peb Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, December 19. The Auckland cricketers returned from Christchurch to-day. They were accorded a mayoral reception in recognition of their feat in winning the. blue riband of New Zealand cricket. Lord Plunket sent a message congratulating them on their success, which, he eaid. would be an encouragement and an incentive to tbe cause -of cricket in New Zealand.
On Monday an Australian cricket team visited Leeston and played a match against Ellesmere. The latter went in first and scored 263, Hammond contributing 129, after which he retired. The Australians only succeeded in making 100 runs, Porter being top scorer with 42. The home team thus won by 163 runs on the first innings.
