DUNEDIN NOTES.
«. [From Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, August 22. His Majesty's Theatre changed handfe today. At a meeting of shareholders of the Agricultural Hall Company it was decided to accept the offer of Mr John Fuller (of Messrs Fuller and Sons) to purchase the whole of the company's property for £15,000. This includes His Majesty's Theatre. Victoria Hall, board room and offices. Replying to the " Post's " strictures on. Otago'is railway claims the "Star" Bays:— The "Evening Post" k candid to" the point of brutal criticism. It ie a mistake to spend money on railway construction in Otago. That is virtually the contention adopted. After alluding to Sir Joseph "Ward's " polite " reply to the Lawrence-RoxbuTgh deputation the " Post " observes : " But we trust that in this caee his. politeness •vill not carry "him to the point of giving the desires of the deputation any more substantial help." The writer of this outrageous article seems to have mi&sed Sir Joseph's emphatic reminder that the line has been autnorieed and started ; in other words that the questions of construction and of route have been closed and cannot bp rropened. We entertain no distrust of Ministerial fidelity on these points. The "Evenin?- Post" and its " disinterested ■ Dunedin mentor, Mr John Maegregor, will not succeed in arresting the prof^ress of the line between Lawrence and Beaumont, the advantages and claims of which were so conclusively set forth by tn> deputation on Monday. As for tho "Evening Post's" outburst, it is to be regretted that a leading newspaper should go out of its way to make Fuch an ungenerous and misleading attack upon the rights and interests of another province. We are glad to think that Otflgo newspapers do not dothis Bort of thing, even under provocation.
