THE CRECHE AT THE EXHIBITION.

» MINISTERIAL APPRECIATION. The president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union of New Zealand has received the following letter from the lion George Fowlds, the Minister in charge of th© recent International Exhibition : — Minister's Office, New Zealand International Exhibition, Wellington August 12, 1907. President, Women's Christian Temperance Union of New Zealand, Christchurch, j Dear Madam, — The Right Hon the Premier lias referred to me, as Minister in charge of the Exhibition, your letter to him of July 23, expressing the appreciation and the thanks of j your Union in connection with the establishment by the Government of a creche at the recent International Exhibition. I am particularly gratified at the result of the step taken at the suggestion of the Union , and desire to place on record my high appreciation of the practical assistance your members rendered in the direction of showing what it is possible to do to give the mothers of young children some relaxation from their domestic duties. My hope is that the success which attended the creche will be the means of inducing women of means and leisure |in other places to follow, on similar occasions, the good example set them by the Women's Christian Temperance Union of New Zealand. The president of the Union, in forwarding the above letter for publication, says: "Perhaps you may be pleased to know that nearly 2000 children were cared for at the creche during the four months it was open, and the largest number in one day left to the care of the attendants was over seventy."
