POLITICAL NOTES.
[FrOII OUK COKHKSrONDENT.] WELLINGTON. July 18. THE MIDLAND RAILWAY. Canterbury and Westland representatives are receiving many telegrams of congratulation in regard to the acceptance of the tender for the Arthur's Pass tunnel. It is generally regarded as a cause for satisfaction that a New .^ aland firm should have secured the contract. MR LAURENSON'S TOUR. Mr G. Laurenson. has received many telegrams expressing regret that the Government should have abandoned the proposals he has advocated so vigorously during the recess. On Saturday evening the member for Lyttelton spoke at Gisborne on the Land question, and a motion was carried approving of the Government's Land policy. He reached Wellington on Tuesday evening in time to hear that the policy had been extensively modified. THE LAND BILL. The Land Bill will come down tomorrow, probably in the afternoon.
