HOCKEY.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The executive of the Canterbury Hockey Association met last evening, Air D. Manson presiding. A letter was received from the Sydenham Hockey Club stating that it desired to withdraw two statements to .rhich the Association had objected in a letter from the club regarding the visit of a Canterbury hockey team to the West Coast last season. Tho chairman stated that after the disqualification of the club by the Assouation the club had appealed to the New Zealand Association, which had ordered the suspension of the club until :h© withdrawal of the incorrect statements contained in the letter referred to. He had taken the responsibility of regarding the letter^ and withdrawal as satisfactory, and had authorised the Sydenham Club to play a match. Mr Congreve eaid that the whole transaction had been -a 'slot- on last year's executive. The chairman raid that he was afraid that the slur was deserved. If the executive had insisted upon the rendering of a balance-sheet of the West Coast tour the trouble would never have arisen. It was decided that the letter from the Sydenham Club should be accepted. The Sydenham Club having included in its junior team against Avon a player named Jacobs, whom the Association had refused to transfer from the senior to the junior rank, it wag resolved that Sydenham must forfeit the match. Messrs Murphy, Rankin and Smith were appointed a 6ub-committee to arrange for the entertainment of the Otago representative team on its projected visit to Christchurch. The Kaiapoi Club wrote explaining the circumstances connected with the 'lof a nit of its teim to a team from the Vvon Club, and asking for the remission of the fHp imposed. It was decided that, as the circumstances were purely unfortunate, the lie should he remitted. The Wellington Association wrote ncT^ng; whether the Canterbury Afpocntion wished the We 1 7in lT ton representa f ive team to visit Chri«tchnv"h. Tt was resolved that the WeWnn+nn Wflcintion should be informed that the tenm would be ™*pl"ome on any Saturday after the middle of August.
