reception for tlie Be^-o'-th'-Barn Hand, which will arrive in Chri-stcnurca on January 10. Mr White, representative for Messrs James Pain and Son, of London, is pushing on with his preparations for tha first display of fireworks in the Exhibition Grounds on New Year's Eve. The hour at which the display will take I place lias not yet been settled, but :t ! will probably be at eleven o'clock, iso as to clear the way for the visit of the Pipe Rands, who will march from the Scottish Society's Rooms sharp at midnight. The third fire-walking ceremony by the Fijian Natives from the Island of Bega will take place on Saturday afternoon, at four o'clock. Mr D invan promises a more convincing display owing to tho Natives' being now more confident and accustomed to the unusual surroundings. Visitors to the Maori Pa are greafly pleased with the display of poi danc*ng given by the girls from the Turakina Maori Girls^ College. Afternoon ani evening performances are being given, tho girls being assisted by the Rai*atonga Natives.
