Stolypin as a reward for his display of zeal and self-sacrificing -service. Tlie decoration is considered significant, as M. Stolypin is the mainstay of Liberalism in tho Cabinet. Two bombs were thrown at Colonel Chazanowski, chief of police a^ Lodz. The> bombs Avrecked his carriage, injured him, and also mortally wounded the driver, a policeman and two dragoons. The perpetrators escaped.
