Sanday was sentenced to fourteen years' penal servitude in connection with the recent shooting of AlbertSmith at Nottingham. (Albert Smith, cashier of Cook's Tourist Branch, Nottingham, was shot dead while locking the safe. His assailant escaped without booty. William Sanday, a petty officer in the merchant service, was arrested and confessed to the murder. The murder at Nottingham was due to jealousy on the part of Sanday, on finding Smith speaking to his sweetheart.) •
