WESTLAND NOTES.

[FKOSi OXJIt CORSESPOKDBNT.] GREYMOUTH, June 5. The returns for the past week are the bes* on record, tho 'average yield per dredge being domewhut over 50oz. Of course, a few returns that will oome to hand to-day are likely t) reduce this average. Blackwater heads the list with 70oz 4dwt foT 177 hours' work. The machinery is now working excellently, the gantry put in the previous week giving general satisfaction. The wash has slightly increased in value, but not so much as the. relum would indicate, the dTeclge having worked close on eight days.

Notown Creek reports 750z for 133 hours' work. The wash is a good sample, and thickpn.ing. timber practically gifing no trouble. Shares have again advanced in price,, and holders will not ba tempted to sell a-t 28s.

Jamiefiotfs Rewwrd's 640z return is a very excellent one, considering that several soams of ail'fc were gone thTouph during the week. Although this trouble will be met with now or.cl again, nevertheless the retanss should be very solid for months to conic. Pactolue, as previously predicted, 'is 'now getting up to three figures. Last week the tobal yield was *S7oz IGctwi. Tho wash is practically the same where both dredges are oporatdng, being cpsvrse and thick, with a few i&Tge boulders in it. Greenstone Three-mile reports 27cz. Tcmber' during the week gave cut, while the wash thickeaied. Prospects generally are encouraging.
